Frequently Asked Questions
Technology can get complicated fast. We try to keep it simple.
Below are answers to some of the questions we hear from local business owners about websites, SEO, AEO, AI agents, and business technology.
Website, SEO & AEO
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of improving your website so search engines like Google can better understand what your business does, where you are located, and which searches your website should appear for.
SEO can include page titles, headings, website content, page speed, mobile usability, internal links, image descriptions, local keywords, structured data, and other technical improvements.
What is AEO?
AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization.
Traditional SEO focuses heavily on helping your website appear in search results. AEO focuses on making your website easier for AI-powered search engines and answer systems to understand and potentially use when answering someone's question.
That includes Google AI results, ChatGPT-style search tools, voice assistants, and other systems that provide direct answers instead of simply displaying a list of websites.
What is the difference between SEO and AEO?
SEO helps search engines find and rank your website.
AEO helps search engines and AI systems understand the information on your website well enough to answer specific questions with it.
A properly built website should consider both. Rouse Innovation does not recommend abandoning SEO for AEO. They should work together.
Is my website already optimized for AEO?
Maybe, but simply having a website does not mean it is optimized for AEO.
AEO-friendly websites generally provide clear answers to real customer questions, use understandable page structures, explain services in detail, contain accurate business information, and use structured data where appropriate.
Rouse Innovation can review an existing website and explain where it stands.
Can you guarantee that ChatGPT or Google AI will recommend my business?
No.
Nobody can legitimately guarantee that an AI platform, Google, or another search engine will recommend a particular business.
What Rouse Innovation can do is improve the information, structure, authority signals, local relevance, and technical setup of a website so these systems have a better chance of understanding the business correctly.
Does my business need both SEO and AEO?
For most businesses, yes.
People still use traditional Google searches, but the way people search is changing. More customers are asking complete questions rather than typing only a few keywords.
A website should be structured to answer those types of searches while still following solid traditional SEO practices.
Will adding an FAQ page improve my SEO?
It can help, but an FAQ page by itself is not a magic SEO trick.
A useful FAQ page gives search engines more context about services and answers questions potential customers are actually searching for.
It becomes much more valuable when it is part of a properly structured website with strong service pages, local information, internal links, good performance, and accurate business information.
How long does SEO take to work?
SEO is usually not immediate.
Some technical changes may be recognized fairly quickly, while competitive search rankings can take weeks or months to improve.
Competition, website history, content quality, location, the Google Business Profile, backlinks, and many other factors can affect results.
Do I need to pay someone every month for SEO?
Not necessarily.
Some businesses need ongoing SEO because they operate in competitive markets, continually publish new content, serve multiple locations, or actively run larger marketing campaigns.
Many small local businesses may primarily need their website and Google Business Profile properly optimized, followed by occasional updates.
Rouse Innovation would rather evaluate what a business actually needs than sell a monthly service that provides little value.
Can you evaluate my current website before I rebuild it?
Yes.
Rouse Innovation does not automatically recommend rebuilding a website.
Sometimes an existing website simply needs technical corrections, better content, improved SEO, clearer calls to action, or structural changes.
If the existing website is already doing its job, Rouse Innovation will say so.
What makes a good small-business website?
A good small-business website should quickly answer four questions:
- What does the business do?
- Where does it provide the service?
- Why should a customer trust it?
- How does someone contact the business?
It should also load quickly, work correctly on mobile devices, be easy to navigate, and give search engines enough information to understand the business.
A website does not need to be complicated to work well.
Can you optimize an existing website without building a new one?
In many cases, yes.
It depends on the platform the website uses and the level of access available.
Rouse Innovation can review the website first and determine whether improving the existing site makes more sense than replacing it.
AI Agents & Automation
What is an AI agent?
An AI agent is software that uses artificial intelligence to perform specific tasks for a business.
Depending on how it is configured, an AI agent may be able to answer questions, collect customer information, qualify leads, schedule appointments, handle incoming phone calls, respond after hours, or automate repetitive office work.
Is an AI agent the same thing as a chatbot?
Not necessarily.
A basic chatbot usually follows a limited set of scripted responses.
A more capable AI agent can understand normal conversation, gather information, use approved business information, and perform certain actions based on what the customer needs.
The exact capabilities depend on how the system is built and what access the business chooses to provide.
Can an AI agent answer my business phone?
Yes.
A voice AI agent can be connected to a business phone system or forwarding number and answer incoming calls.
It can potentially answer common questions, collect a caller's name and contact information, determine why they are calling, take messages, and perform other approved tasks.
Will an AI phone agent sound exactly like a human?
No.
Modern AI voices can sound very natural, but customers may still recognize that they are interacting with an automated system.
The goal should not be to trick customers. The goal is to provide a useful response when a human employee cannot answer the phone.
Can an AI agent replace an employee?
Sometimes AI can automate part of an employee's workload, but Rouse Innovation generally views AI as a tool rather than a complete employee replacement.
AI is particularly useful for repetitive tasks, after-hours inquiries, basic questions, lead collection, initial call handling, and other predictable processes.
There are still situations where a real person needs to take over.
Can an AI agent schedule appointments?
Yes, if it is connected to a compatible scheduling or calendar system and configured to do so.
Exact capabilities depend on the software the business currently uses.
What happens if the AI agent does not know the answer?
That should be planned before the system is deployed.
Instead of inventing an answer, the agent can be instructed to collect the customer's information, transfer the call when appropriate, or explain that someone from the business will follow up.
AI systems need clearly defined limits.
Can an AI agent work after business hours?
Yes.
This is one of the strongest uses for an AI agent.
Instead of sending every unanswered call directly to voicemail, an AI agent can answer, provide basic information, collect customer details, and create a lead for the business to follow up on.
Can an AI agent be customized for my business?
Yes.
The agent can use approved information about services, operating hours, service areas, frequently asked questions, policies, and other business-specific information.
Rouse Innovation does not recommend using a generic agent that knows nothing about the actual business.
Are AI agents expensive?
The cost depends on what the agent needs to do, how many calls or conversations it handles, what services it connects with, and the complexity of the automation.
A simple lead-capture agent is very different from an agent connected to several business systems.
Rouse Innovation can evaluate the task first and determine whether using AI actually makes financial sense.
Does every business need an AI agent?
No.
Some businesses do not receive enough calls or repetitive requests to justify one.
The first question should be:
“What problem are we trying to solve?”
If there is no clear problem or financial benefit, adding AI simply because it is popular probably does not make sense.
